Job Overview: Our client is seeking a  CT / MRI Specialist Radiographer to join their team. 


Job Summary: Primary Duties 

  • To individually assess and justify a range of diagnostic examinations under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations (IR(ME)R) 2000 using appropriate Practitioner Guidelines.
  • To perform a range of diagnostic imaging examinations and provide care for patients during these examinations, respecting the rights of privacy and confidentiality, and to evaluate the clinical quality of the images produced.
  • To produce high quality images, including any digital image post processing required, on all examinations.
  • Updating records on CRIS and Centricity and ensuring PACS/CRIS processes are implemented in line with IR(ME)R, professional and local guidelines.
  • To offer clinical advice on images through A&E and GP fast tracks using the red dot indication system.
  • To maintain high standards of radiation protection being aware of the local rules and systems of work in each relevant area.
  • To ensure that all appropriate documentation of patient attendance is complete and accurate, including patient identity, pregnancy status and radiation doses.
  • To continue to develop through CPD and by role expansion as appropriate and to undertake all mandatory training as appropriate and in a timely manner. To record all training and development in a portfolio of continuing professional development.
  • To be involved in clinical audits, quality assurance and quality control programmes as required.
  • To assist in the instruction and supervision of newly qualified radiographers, student radiographers, assistant practitioners and other staff where appropriate.
  • To report any untoward incidents involving patients, staff or equipment to the Modality Lead Radiographer or directly to the Section Lead as soon as possible and in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Work as a multi-disciplinary team member to ensure efficient and effective patient management.
  • Prioritise own workload to efficiently manage service provision.
  • Maintain effective communication and dissemination of information verbally and electronically.
  • Active involvement in service development, improvement and promotion.
  • To report clinical, non-clinical and radiation incidents in line with HSC and departmental Risk Management policies.
  • To report without delay any equipment malfunction or image quality deterioration or failure to the superintendent radiographer.
  • To participate in the academic programme of the department as required.
  • To participate in annual appraisal reviews with a nominated appraiser.
  • Take responsibility for implementing a personal Professional Development plan.
  • Maintain knowledge of technological and technical advances in methods of diagnostic imaging in order to promote a culture of continuous improvement within the department.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years relevant clinical and post graduate radiography experience in specialist area to include CT/MRI, (and/or) NM (and/or) Mammography.
  • DCR or BSc in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Possess wide range of general and cross- sectional radiographic skills.
  • Demonstrable evidence of continued Audit and CPD.
  • A knowledge of: Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Clinical Audit, Radiation Protection (including IR(ME)R 2000), Radiology based IT systems i.e. PACS and RIS.
  • Practical training in a wide range of general radiographic skills.
  • Practical training in X-ray/CT/MRI (and/or) Nuclear Medicine (and/or) Breast Imaging
  • SOR Membership. (Desirable)
  • Certificate of Competence in IV injecting within a radiology environment.(Desirable)
  • Evidence of working towards post graduate study within specialist clinical area. (Desirable)
  • Valid Driving Licence (for on call). (Desirable)
